Winter Bowling
The Barrie Area Winter Lawn Bowling Club begins the winter season in November with play continuing until April. All games played indoors at the Barrie Sports Dome, every Monday and Wednesday from 1-4 pm. (Please plan to arrive around 12:30 for team set-up).

In all 12 teams competed. Orillia (2), Midland, Stayner, Collingwood, Cannington, Cosburn Park (Toronto) and Barrie(5)
Amica In Club Tournament - 2019
The club held their annual In Club tournament on June 17,2019 sponsored by Amica at Barrie (Retirement Living).
Thirty bowlers participated playing three 6 end games. Entry fee was $5.00 which included a pizza and salad lunch and ice cream cones for dessert.
The winning team was Gerry Fowler (skip), Barb Keillor and Sue Maw. The following is a complete list of winners.
Georgian Chevrolet Tournament - 2019
On May 25 the club hosted the 24th Annual Georgian Chevrolet Tournament at the Barrie Sports Dome.
The format was Open Pairs with 12 teams (four outside teams and eight Barrie teams) participating.
The High 3 Game Winners were Rob Scruton and Don Fleming from the host club.

Winter Bowling - 2018/19
The new season is off to a great start. With Halloween on Wednesday (Oct. 31) the lounge was "themed" to the day! Anita and Rob Scruton did a marvelous job in decorating the lounge with ghosts, goblins, witches, and Jack O' Lanterns.
After bowling , Anita and Rob served sandwiches, cheeses and crackers with pickles and a special Halloween cake with ice cream. A wonderful day !

Lifestyle Realty (Heather Jones) Tournament
The club hosted the final tournament of the summer season on Sept. 22 with 14 teams competing for the
Lifestyle Realty (Heather Jones) Trophy. Ten visiting teams (Midland (3), Collingwood (2),
Stayner (2), Hanover, Cosburn Park (Toronto) and Orillia along with four teams from Barrie.
Overall winner was a team from Barrie skipped by Rob Scruton.

"Red and White" Day - 2018
The club held their annual "Red & White" day on July 2 to mark Canada Day 2018. Twenty bowlers braved the heat, playing two six end games.
The lounge was decorated with banners, flags, pennants, red and white table cloths etc., all courtesy of Anita and Rob Scruton. Great job !
After bowling sandwiches, cheeses, pickles were served followed by cake and ice cream. These "goodies" were provided by the Scrutons. A fitting conclusion to a fun day.
The annual In-Club tournament sponsored by Amica at Barrie (Retirement Residence) was held June 18. A total of 36 bowlers participated in the fun event. Overall winners were a team of, first time skip Shonagh Woods, Barb Keillor and Brian Barrett with three wins. Complete list of winners below.
Congratulations to Barrie bowler, Gord Smith. Gord teamed up with Wayne Holly of Collingwood to win the District 13 Men's Pairs competition played in Midland June 9 and 10. They now qualify for the Ontario finals to be played in Hanover June 22-24. The top two teams from play in Hanover proceed to the National Championships in Regina in August. Well done Gord and Wayne.

23rd Annual Georgian Chevrolet Tournament - 2018
The club hosted their second tournament of the spring, the 23rd annual Georgian Chevrolet Open Pairs on May 26 at the Barrie Sports Dome.
Twelve teams, six from the host club and six from other clubs in our district participated with the Orillia pair of Robb Barsevich
and Kevin Binstead the overall winners. The other 4 prize winners were Barrie teams.

Matthews Tournament - 2018
The club hosted the 18th annual Matthews Tournament on May 12 at the Barrie Sports Dome.
The tournament is sponsored by club member Nancy Matthews in honor of her parents. Barrie teams
fared well winning prize money in three of the five presentations.
The overall winner (High Three Game score) was an Orillia team skipped by Wayne Nelson with Mavis Shaw
and Nancy Nicoll. Other winners were:

Winter Club - Closing Dinner 2017/18
The winter Lawn Bowling Club held the closing dinner for the 2017/18 season on Wednesday, April 18/18 at the Midway
Diner on Bradford St. It was a full course turkey dinner (with all the trimmings), dessert and a beverage enjoyed
by 30 members and guests. As usual it was a delicious dinner with generous servings.
The club made special presentation (bottle of wine) to Anita Scruton in recognition of all her decoration efforts in the lounge on special days throughout the season. Thanks to Anita (and to Rob for being her special "helper". Beth Willoughby read a few short humorous stories and then presided over a draw for a series of door prizes (14 in all).Thanks to Beth for providing most of the prizes. Prize winners were Tom Keillor, Rob Scruton, Judy Robertson (guest), Karen Greenfield, Doug Morphett (guest), John Ferguson, Anita Scruton, Susan Wehling, Mike Wehling, Barb Keillor, Nelson Jordan, Zelda Croft, Mary Macfarlane (guest), Beth Willoughby.
Thanks too, to the staff at the Midway Diner for a fine meal.

The Barrie Lawn Bowling Club welcomes new members whether you are just a beginner or have previous bowling experience. No special equipment is needed just a comfortable pair of soft soled shoes. If you would like to try the game on a no cost trial basis give us a call.
Free instruction is readily available for all who wish to participate. The club will supply bowls free of charge for the first year while you learn to bowl. A new bowlers kit, prepared by the Ontario Lawn Bowls Association is available to all first time members. This includes a New Bowler's Handbook as well as a booklet on Technique and Etiquette to help you enjoy the game.
